			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Vitamins and supplements are a touchy subject for me.  I have seen many people go a bit overboard and feel that they need to take them and wind up doing more harm than good.  So before I go any further with this I am not telling you to take or not to take a multivitamin.  I suggest that before you decide to add a multivitamin to your diet you consult your physician to make sure that you are doing the right thing for your body.</p>
<p>With that said we can get into the topic of vitamins and whether or not there are any that promote weight loss.  Actually, all vitamins help aid your body in weight loss.  When your body absorbs the various vitamins and minerals from your foods it helps aid your body in the weight loss process. Vitamins and minerals aid in weight loss by keeping your body functioning at its optimal levels.  A healthy body is going to burn more fat than one lacking certain vitamins.  All of the vitamins are important keys to a healthy.  There is no magic vitamin that will melt the fat right off of your body.  If your body becomes deficient in any of the vitamins or minerals that it needs then it won’t be able to function correctly and you won’t be able to continue on in the weight loss process.</p>
<p>If you are consuming a balanced diet then you should get all of the vitamins and minerals your body needs from the foods you consume.  Vitamin supplements should not replace what you can get from real food.  Supplements are just chemical derivates of what you would and should be getting as part of your diet.  In most cases a multivitamin isn’t going to hurt your and will actually make sure that you reach the amount of vitamins and minerals that your body needs, but for the most part you will get everything from eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean meats.</p>
<p>If I was going to add a multivitamin to my own diet then I would go with either one from Centrum or One A Day.  I have used Centrum in the past and had no ill effects from it.  One A Day, which is another well known brand, offers several multivitamins specifically for men or women.  If you are seriously thinking about adding a multivitamin into your diet I would strongly suggest that you talk to your doctor.  He or she will know your needs, your weight loss goals, and your issues with sleep apnea in order to help you make the best possible decision to achieve your goals.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I find it very interesting when I hear people say, “Oh, I’m going on a diet.” The reason I find it interesting is because in reality they are already on a diet.  Your diet is the foods that you consume on a regular basis.  The term “diet” doesn’t mean weight loss, yet people synonymously use it when they refer to themselves consuming food in order to lose weight.  Every day you are on a so called “diet”, but many people don’t acknowledge the word on those terms since society has used the term “diet” to mean weight loss for so many years.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"> </span></p>
<p>Now that we have defined what a diet is we have to figure out where the term “meal plan” fits into the equation.  People frequently use diet and meal plan interchangeably so it can get a bit confusing to actually know what they are meaning.</p>
<p>The two terms diet and meal plan are quite similar.  I like to explain it this way&#8211; “diet” is the broadest term available.  You can have a balanced diet where you consume the proper amounts of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats OR you can have an unhealthy diet where you consume whatever you want, whenever you want.  So that goes back to the whole “diet” being what you consume; whether or not you are trying to lose weight.  A meal plan however is more of a sub category of the term diet.  A meal plan consists of a prescribed amount of calories and lays out what you will consume through out the day.  It helps to make sure that you are consuming a balanced diet.  A good meal plan will not be restrictive and say that you must eat this, this, and this in order to lose weight.  It will give you some leeway so it can be customized to meet your needs and your lifestyle as well as help you lose weight.  So the next time you hear the terms “diet” and “meal plan” you will have a better understanding of what the person means and maybe you can help educate your family and friends so they can reach their weight loss goals as well.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In your quest to a healthier and slimmer lifestyle there are many questions that are bound to come up along the way.  One such question, that is really good is, “Are there any foods that I should be eating in order to break down the fat I already have?”  I was always taught that the best way to eliminate your fat reserves was to exercise, but if you can break down the fat by consuming simple and available foods then why not.  So in my quest for a more complete knowledge of the human diet and weight loss I came across this article on the Diet Digest Blog. If you are a vegetable lover then the foods on this list will be right up your alley, as most of them are vegetables.  So the 12 foods that are recommended to include in your diet are:  asparagus, beets, brussel sprouts, cabbage, carrots, celery, cucumbers, garlic, horseradish, lettuce, radishes, and tomatoes.<sup>1</sup> Other than these foods being vegetables you will find that they all contain a lot of micronutrients (vitamins &amp; minerals) that your body needs in order to promote the break down of fat.  These minerals help your organs release chemicals to cleanse your body and eliminate the waste.  Foods such as beets and horseradish contain natural diuretics which help to cleanse your body as well. If you are not a big fan of vegetables then I would suggest consuming more whole grains (oatmeal, cereals, bran muffins, whole grain pasta, brown rice, etc) to complement your diet.  While these foods are not considered “fat busting” they do promote weight loss and will keep you feeling full.</p>
<p>So if you are looking for foods to incorporate into your diet that will promote the break down of your existing fat cells then I would suggest going with these ones.  Besides helping to clean you out these foods will help keep your hunger at bay (since they are full of fiber).</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I’m going to try to break it to you as easily as possible.  If your ultimate goal is weight loss then you are going to have to restrict the amount of sugar you consume.  I know this may seem tough but sugar isn’t good for you and definitely won’t help you lose weight.  Many meal plans aim to restrict the amount of sugar consumed and it is rightfully so.  Since sugar is a carbohydrate it contains 4 calories per gram.  Even though sugar is a carbohydrate it is not the same as say, whole wheat bread.  Sugar is a simple carbohydrate, which means that is broken down by your body relatively quickly, as opposed to complex carbohydrates that take a longer time to digest.  Sugar also doesn’t contain the same nutrient value that other foods do.  Finally, consuming excess sugar causes a spike in your blood sugar levels.  This along with being overweight can lead to adult onset diabetes of Type 2 diabetes.</p>
<p>When you are planning out your meals each day you would be best served to go with low sugar or sugar free foods.  For the most part you are going to want to keep your sugar level down.  Now I’m not telling you that you have to totally give up sugar all together.  There are instances when you can allow yourself a little “cheat” of sorts.  Say you have been doing really well on your diet and you are really craving a sugary snack, then go a head and get yourself one.  The key to this is to make sure that you control the size of your portion.  A small snack does not mean that you can consume half of a cherry pie.  Along with having lots of calories, it would also have a lot of sugar.  If you just cannot eliminate sugar completely from your diet then make sure to build in a day where you treat yourself to a little sugar.  However, for the majority of the time you  should be choosing low sugar or sugar free foods.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>As I have stated before, the best meal plan is one that can be personalized to your needs and works well with your lifestyle.  If cooking healthy foods is too difficult then you won’t stick with it for a very long time and won’t lose the weight you need to.  If you want a meal plan that is going to feature simple ingredients then you are going to have to design your own meal plan to meet your needs.  The key to this is to make sure that you stick with your caloric needs as well as your recommended amounts for carbohydrates, protein, and fats.  From here you can build your meal plan however you would like it to be.</p>
<p>There are many meal plans that feature complicated dishes and take a lot of time to prepare.  While it is good that these plans lay out everything you should be eating; they aren’t always the most flexible.  If you customize your own meal plan then you can take into account factors that might pop up through out your week that could potentially derail your weight loss goals.  Say you had a hectic day at work and you come home for dinner.  Your meal plan says that you must eat said meal, however you don’t have the time or energy to prepare it.  What do you do?  Well if you are following your own well balanced meal plan then you know that as long as you are sticking to your caloric intake then you can consume pretty much whatever you want to.</p>
<p>When you are planning out your meals it should not be complicated.  If someone tells you that you have to have special ingredients and slave over the kitchen in order to lose weight then don’t listen to them.  Dieting is not a difficult task.  As long as you are consuming plenty of fruits and vegetables, lean meats, low fat dairy products, and whole grains then you are good to go.</p>

<p>Oats &#8211;  Oats and oatmeal is a great food choice to include into your diet to promote weight loss.  It is high in fiber, takes longer to digest, isn’t high on the glycemic index, and isn’t loaded with calories.  The glycemic index is “<em>an indicator of the ability of different types of foods that contain carbohydrate to raise the blood glucose (blood sugar) levels within 2 hours. Foods containing carbohydrates that break down most quickly during digestion have the highest glycemic index</em>.”<sup>1</sup> If you are looking for a great option for breakfast or just want a healthy snack then go with some old fashioned oatmeal.</p>
