Ugh, I’m Tired of My Bland Diet!

One misconception about dieting is that you can only eat bland food, because it is healthier.  Well, I’m here to tell you that just isn’t true!  You can eat satisfying food that is full of flavor and loaded with an array of wonderful tastes.

I will admit that I am not a wonderful cook.  Like many others, I don’t understand how certain spices can work to flavor a meal and bring out the best in it.  However, if you are willing to do a bit of research on the Internet then you can gain a comprehensive knowledge on what spices you should be adding to the dishes you are cooking.

Another way that you can give your foods flavors is by incorporating herbs.  Both herbs and spices will take a blah meal to one that you will definitely remember and want to eat over and over again!

When I cook there are a couple of things I do to flavor my food.  They are quite simple, but get the job done:

  • The first method I recommend for cooking is using onions in your meal.  You may not be an onion person, but if you cook them the right way into your meal then you won’t really notice.  For example, say you want to eat some chicken.  You could start off by chopping up some onions and cooking them up in extra virgin olive oil.  Once the onions have cooked for a while you can add your chicken and cook it up.
  • Another thing I like to cook with is real garlic cloves.  Garlic not only has health benefits it tastes great as well.  You can add garlic to the meats you are preparing, to your spaghetti sauce, or really anything you want.
  • My final tip for spicing up your bland dishes is to use various powders.  This goes back to the whole herb and spice thing.  Good powders to use are garlic powder, onion powder, and my personal favorite Mrs. Dash.

You might notice that the ones I gave you are all low or no sodium options.  When trying to lose weight, especially if you are suffering from hypertension, you are going to want to figure out how to cook and keep the sodium out of your diet.

So, if you’re looking to take your bland food to the next level then you need to incorporate herbs and spices into your diet.  These simple cooking aids are both low in calories and even have health benefits!
