Why Fresh Food is the Best Food

Once you’ve selected a sound meal plan it’s time to start planning out the foods you will be eating to help you lose weight.

Proper food selection is a very important part of the weight loss process. A good way to begin your new plan is by going into your refrigerator and cabinets and removing the unhealthy foods that don’t fit into your new meal plan.  You are looking for foods high in fats, trans fats, processed, foods, etc.

The next step you will do is to make a grocery list of things to purchase.  This list should include whole grain foods, lean meats, lots of fruit and vegetables, and low fat dairy items.  A grocery list will keep you on track when going to the store.


A lot of people are curious when they do their shopping about what types of foods to get.  They wonder if they should be buying canned food, frozen food, or fresh food.  A good rule of thumb is that when you shop you should try to go with fresh ingredients whenever you can.  If you can afford it then you should be purchasing fresh fruit and vegetables as opposed to canned ones.

Fresh foods are going to have more nutrients and antioxidants than the canned versions will have.  Canned foods also have higher levels of sodium and preservatives that fresh foods won’t have.

So when you go to the grocery store this is the plan you should be following:

  • First look to buy fresh ingredients and food whenever possible.
  • If fresh ingredients aren’t available to you then your second option would be to purchase frozen fruit and vegetables.
  • Your last option would be to purchase canned foods.  Canned foods do not offer the same nutritional values as the other two options.
